Norman Rockwell

Normal Rockwell was born in 1894 in New York. As a young child he had many deficiencies. He had buck teeth, was very clumsy, and was even more self-conscious about himself because his older brother was a great athlete. He always forgot about how awkward he was when his dad would read him stories at night. He imagined himself as a character in the book. This lead to his great imagination through art later in his life.
He learned, like his brother's natural athletic talent, he was a natural artist. He started drawing a ton of work when he was 12. By 8th grade his teacher realized how good he was at art. She made him draw artwork for all of his schoolwork. Norman was so excited for art school in college that he dropped out of high school at the age of 15. He enjoyed studying art and selling his paintings in art shows until he was 21. He then joined the Navy for World war I and was discharged after a year.
He then started drawing advertisements for popular magazines and newspapers. Instead of today how people make ads with things like photoshop and text editors, Norman drew the ads for the companies. Soon famous companies like Jello, Campbells Soup, and Fisk bicycle tires were picking Norman to draw their ads.
Norman's next big thing was in World war 2. At this time he was drawing magazine covers, newspaper covers, and other things for the biggest news companies. Instead of depicting the actual battle scenes like many other artists, Norman depicted the mood around him instead. Pictures of people weeping after learning their friend just died, people getting food packages from home, etc.
As Norman grew older he kept drawing and painting. He is now known as the most influential artist in the 1900's. He started up most clip-art drawings, and took realism to a whole new level. He is recognized by many people today as a great artist for a long period of time. His last major picture was Neil Armstong on the moon. He died in 1978 at the age of 84.
