Chuck Close

Chuck Close was a pivotal American painter. Born in 1940, he was often known to be labeled "stupid" in his class. Back in this time (the 1940's and 50's), we didn't know what Dyslexia was. Chuck was often left behind with his studies because he didn't know what to do. As he struggled behind in many things, he decided that he would attempt to be an artist. Turns out, this was one of the things he could succeed at. He would grow up to be one of the greatest American artists of all time.
Chuck didn't have the most entertaining childhood. He was not a great child prodigy like some artists. Because of his dyslexia as I mentioned, he suffered with his studies. His advisor in high school told him he should not try for a highly intellectual school. Instead he ended up going to a community college. This is where he realized he was a great artist. He was then sent to the Yale college of Arts, where he learned various painting styles. But one stuck out to him very much - realism.
Chuck graduated from college, but needed some form of income. He started trying to get a job, but that failed. He ended up inventing his own style of painting, hyper realism. Hyper realism was basically an incredible form of realism used in gigantic paintings. He was able to make this popular, and a well known form of art all around the world.
In 1988 at an event, Chuck had a terrible accident. He had a seizure, forcing him into paralysis from the neck down. After many months in rehab, he was still able to move his hands, but he had to use a wheelchair from now on. He still paints using a brush taped onto his arm. Although now his paintings appear much more pixelated.
A funny fact about him, is that he has a small amount of blindness, rendering him unable to make out exactly what a face looks like. Strangely enough, he still ended up painting faces for a living.
