Rembrandt Van Rijn

Posted by Unknown

Rembrandt was an old dutch painter back in the 1600's. He is considered one of the greatest painters in European history. He helped create the Baroque style of painting that many people in Europe had grown to love.

Rembrandt was born July 15th, 1606 in the Netherlands, as the 9th child in the family. His father was a miller and his mother was a baker's daughter so they always had plenty of necessities. When he was a boy he went to Latin school, although he loved painting. He opened an art studio with his friend when he was just 18 years old. He would paint portraits for people, and give art lessons.

He then moved to Amsterdam, expanding his business he formed in the Netherlands. He met his future wife, and had 4 children, all of which died within a month of birth. After the last child died, his wife died too. This left Rembrandt very sad. He ended up then marrying his maid, even though the Church council was against it.

As Rembrandt grew older, he grew wiser. He started buying paintings and reselling them, aswell as painting his own. He was very famous, and everyone wanted his work, so what he'd do is buy art from people, then say he made it. Rembrandt was one of the few non-poor artists we study today. As he got older, he also got blind. He had to stop painting.
