Johann Sebastian Bach

Posted by Unknown

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on the 31st of March in 1685 in Eisenach. His family was very musical. His father was a director of the town musicians, and all his uncles were professional musicians. He was very into music as a child. His father taught him to play the harpsichord and the violin and his brother taught him to play some contemporary music. He had quite a large family, he was the eighth of fourteen kids.

Bach then went on to a music university to study composition and piano. There isn't much information about this period of his life. However we know he went to the university at the age of 14 and was accompanied by his brother. He then moved around to various places and wrote music. He wrote very instruction-like music. His most famous piece, the Well-tempered Clavier, was considered boring by a lot of people at the time.

However, his music would be used for teaching students for the next 300 years. It is still used today to teach people new music, due to the highly repitious nature of it. It usually uses an incremental amount of scales and arpeggios. He has been called the father of harmony, as many composers after him used his music as a base for their music.
